WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Several of the nominees at the 84th annual Academy Awards Sunday night had Westchester ties, but none was lucky enough to leave with any hardware.
Two of the Best Actress candidates Glenn Close ("Albert Nobbs") and Rooney Mara ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") were from Bedford, with Close a current resident and Mara a native. Both women lost to Meryl Streep for her role in "The Iron Lady."
Other Nominees with Westchester ties were:
Aaron Sorkin, a Best Adapted Screenplay nominee for "Moneyball," a Scarsdale High School alum.
Chapaqua native Joe Berlinger, who co-wrote the nominated documentary feature "Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory."
Scarsdale's Julie Anderson produced "God is the Bigger Elvis," a nominated documentary short, which Tarrytown's Rebecca Cammisa directed.
Katonah's James Spione wrote the nominated documentary short, "Incident in New Baghdad,"
