New Rochelle Woman Delivers Home-Cooked Meals

New Rochelle’s Candida Canfield understands that Westchester residents want home-cooked meals more often than they have the time to hit the kitchen. Her solution, Dinner In Hand, brings a chef-made meal straight to those homes. Her clients include families, seniors and business people — all of whom want a healthy but convenient alternative to cooking themselves.

Canfield came up with the idea after wanting an option beyond pizza or Chinese takeout. With a background that includes advertising, Internet business experience, and cooking as a hobby, she founded Dinner In Hand in 2007. Now, Canfield is looking into franchising her business.

She wants to work with local caterers to create each franchise. Canfield explains that caterers have dips in their business flow, and Dinner In Hand can fill those gaps. Caterers often have little work in the early part of the week, and Canfield has found that demand for Dinner In Hand peaks then. She says the next part of the plan is to secure the financing.

For now, Dinner In Hand delivers to every town in lower Westchester five days a week. They also deliver to Armonk, Mount Kisco and Bedford on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The meals are complete rather than a la carte with a price point below restaurant costs.

Canfield has come to know her customer base and finds it interesting to cater to such a diverse group of people. She has also found that whether they are part of the many who love to cook but just do not have the time or those who never wanted to cook, most become regulars after a taste.
