Media Mogul Celebrates Party Planning

David Miller's entire professional life has revolved around helping people find what they need. So when the opportunity to take over a 20-year-old exhibition connecting party planning and entertainment with parents presented itself, the Larchmont resident lept at the chance.

“Acquiring Celebrate Party Showcases gives us an opportunity to connect with parents on three levels: the printed products, online and now the in-person with the showcases,” said Miller, CEO of Davler Media Group. His company specializes in publications in the luxury, parenting and visitor markets.

Just within the parenting division, Davler prints eight regional publications, including Westchester Parent and Fairfield Parent. They connect through the NYMetroParents.com website.

When the previous Celebrate owners let Miller know they were interested in selling, he was exited at the opportunity. Party planning for Bar and Bat Mitzvah's, Sweet Sixteens and every other childhood milestone is a regular enough topic in the publications that owning an exhibition focused on helping seemed a natural fit.

“It's just very efficient and beneficial,” said Miller. “We have a chance to let parents meet and interact with hundreds of exhibitors in the space of two hours. At the same time, we give the exhibitors access to hundreds of parents. It's a win-win.”

Helping connect people with the information they seek is tantamount to Miller's lifelong success. He began his career out of college with the Yellow Pages, where he remained for 15 years. He went on to work at a number of other media groups until founding Davler seven years ago.

Miller laughed and said that he didn't have a plan coming out of college and didn't imagine he'd one day run his own media company. Now 53 years old, he joyfully describes himself as a career long media person.

Though the Celebrate Party Showcases have been happening for 20 years, the one on Nov. 20 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown will be the first since Miller took over. Two more are scheduled later in the year. He is also working on a Westchester County Camp Fair to helps parents decide on summer fun for their children.

“All of this really helps further secure our position as the leading provider in parent-oriented media,” said Miller.
