Armonk Stylist Makes Hope Fashionable

Cheryl Lynch, owner of Armonk's Cherylyn Salon North, has built a career on giving women just the right cut and style to go out into the world looking and feeling great. For some of her most important clients, it may be the first time they've felt strong and pretty in far too long.

Lynch offers her, and her salon's, services to Hope's Door, an organization helping rescue women from domestic abuse. Lynch notes there is an underlying misconception that affluent communities are somehow immune to abuse, or that wealthier women are more capable of extricating themselves from the situation. "It's not only poor women, these are also real people in real need," Lynch says.

Hope's Door offers a safe haven for battered women across Westchester and Fairfield counties. For her part, Lynch offers a full day of beauty and make overs for the women rescued from domestic abuse. Photo shoots are organized to show the women before and after photos, which for many is an overwhelming experience.

Lynch says just seeing the change come over the rescued women is the only reward she requires. "Oh my god,” Lynch says, “it just fills you inside.”

Lynch began her professional career in her father's small mom and pop shop. In the back, her mother ran a small salon for the neighborhood women. That was where Lynch discovered her passion for hair cutting, styling and the beauty field in general. She styled hair for her first bride when she was 12.

Since then, Lynch has made a name for herself in the industry. She's developed signature highlighting and hair cutting methods with her triple shears and brought her salon to the forefront in the region. She loves bringing in new stylists and giving them a chance to shine. Some stay, and some move on. But as long as they end up better than they came to her, Lynch says she's happy.

When she isn't managing the salon or working with Hope's Door, Lynch is involved with a number of charities. She serves as an honorary member for the Children's Cancer Fund planning board.

Between those moments of giving, Lynch finds her own shelter in her salon. It is there where she embraces her role as a strong woman with an artistic side. “When I am doing hair, I'm in my creative zone."
