The incident occurred in Yonkers around 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, when Yonkers Police responded to the O'Rourke Townhomes on Shoreview Drive after receiving reports of a man in crisis who may have been in possession of a gun.

Out of caution due to the location’s proximity to the Robert C. Dodson School, police requested a lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff, officials said.

Authorities made contact with the man and took him into protective custody without incident. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The lockdown was lifted around 2:30 p.m., and school dismissal began shortly after, according to police. All roadways in the area have since reopened, and the investigation remains ongoing.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, however, the safety of our students was a priority," the department wrote in a statement following the incident.
