The challenge was a 4-week long community-wide competition for the greatest number of steps that challenged area employees to be more physically active.
White Plains Hospital President & CEO Susan Fox acknowledged those who participated in the program, and White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach officially declared November 5th Ex- STEP-tional Challenge Day in the city of White Plains. “It is my great pleasure to be here and to recognize everyone who participated in this program,” said Mayor Roach.
New York State Assemblyman David Buchwald, staff from New York State Senator Terrence Murphy’s office, and members of the White Plains School District and the White Plains Youth Bureau were also in attendance at the event. Approximately 100 people who participated in the challenge attended the wrap-up event, including employees from the Journal News, Brown and Brown, and People’s United Bank, as well as the White Plains Library, Building Department, PTA, Parks and Recreation Department, and Department of Public Works and Child Care Council of Westchester.
Awards were given out for the top stepping teams (most teams per organization), top team finishers (most steps accumulated per team), senior citizen participation, youth participation, and most individual steps. Winning individuals and teams received commemorative plaques, trophies, and prizes, and all attendees were treated to a healthy lunch.
A total of 610 individuals and 122 teams participated in the challenge. Throughout the Ex-STEP-tional Challenge, White Plains Hospital motivated participants with a series of informative and motivational videos posted on the Hospital’s YouTube channel and Facebook page as well as a musical playlist of walking-related songs. The Ex-STEP-tional Challenge is a part of the Hospital’s mission of wellness in the community and will be re- launched in the spring.
