These Shower Drains Deserve Design Kudos

"My name is Kymberly Weiner, and I sell toilets." That is her standard response when people ask what she does. But Kymberly is the merchandising and marketing supervisor at  Best Plumbing Tile & Stone, with locations in Scarsdale, Somers and Yorktown Heights, and is also a third generation member in the family-owned and operated business. Below, she discusses shower drains.

This might seem a little fringe-y, but bear with me: When was the last time you gave your shower drain a second thought? Maybe now is the time. When you're remodeling a bathroom, there are many different products you have to think about. Faucets, vanities, toilets and tile are among the main concerns, but shower drains don't usually make it to the top of the punch list. If you leave it up to your plumber, you will likely wind up with a cheap, chrome round drain. After all, does it really matter?

The answer is, "Yes," It does! Why shouldn't your shower drain match the color of your shower fixtures? Why shouldn't it be decorative? And in some cases – why should you even have to see one?

California Faucets, among other faucet companies, has created decorative shower drains to fit any bathroom style. Their square drains, called StyleDrain, come in six different designs, each available in myriad finishes, from polished chrome and satin nickel to obscure finishes, such as antique copper and matte black. You can match your shower trim finish, or even match it to your tile.

Taking it one step further, California Faucets created the CeraLine channel drain, which actually hides the drain from view. CeraLine is perfect for contemporary, curb-free or handicap-accessible showers. California offers three different styles – two available in a limited number of metal finishes, and one that is custom-made.

The plumbing and floor pitch are different for these drains, so make sure your plumber knows you plan to use them before construction begins.
