NWH and LiveOnNY Increase the Number of New York Organ Donors

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- A month ago today, Northern Westchester Hospital joined forces with LiveOnNY and participated as an enrollment center for the first-ever Organ Donor Enrollment Day on. As a result of those efforts, NWH has been recognized for 'Most Enrollments by Hospital without Transplant Service' byLiveOnNY.

There currently are 122,646 people on the national waiting list for organs; 10,199 of them are in New York State. Unfortunately, every 18 hours someone in New York State dies waiting for an organ. Additionally, most major religions actively support organ donation.

“Organ donation is a sensitive topic for many, but the fact is, too many New Yorkers die waiting for a life-saving organ transplant." says Joel Seligman, President & CEO, Northern Westchester Hospital.

Those who benefit from organ donations are right in the Westchester community. Acacia is a thirteen year old Westchester girl that received a small bowel, liver, pancreas transplant in 2003. Today, she is a happy, healthy thirteen year old. To hear her incredible story, click here.
