Northern Westchester Hospital Surgeon Talks Harvey, Youth Sports Injuries

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- MLB agent Scott Boras' announcement earlier this month suggesting the New York Mets impose an innings limit on their ace pitcher Matt Harvey during the heat of a September pennant race angered Mets fans and front office alike, who feel that despite his season-ending injury last year, Harvey should be ready to carry his team into the playoffs and beyond.

Injury from repetitive motion and overuse are not only pro-level injuries, according to Northern Westchester Hospital Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Victor Khabie. He recently addressed the issue of repetitive activity injuries among young athletes in an article with What To Do magazine.

Dr Khabie cites a single-sports mindset as a leading cause in youth burnout. " Kids are committing to one sport at an early age, they play for multiple teams and they do it year round" he says. "If that sport is stressful on an elbow or a knee, it’s going to cause injuries."
