New Proposal Could Ban Smoking in Cars with Kids

Smokers be warned: you might not be able to light up a cigarette in your car if a child is present. One legislator in New York has introduced a bill that would make it illegal to smoke – secondhand smoke is a proven killer -- in vehicles with children aboard.

Assemblyman David Weprin, has proposed legislation that would make a smoking ban apply to adults with children under the age of 14 in the car, regardless of whether or not the windows are rolled down. Violators might have to pay a fine of up to $100 if they are caught doing so.

Rockland County has already passed a bill and Nassau County is reportedly considering one banning smoking in vehicles with any passengers under the age of 18.
