Owned and operated by the Langner family, and the oldest restaurant in Westchester still in business, Travelers Rest specializes in German cuisine, and has also become well known for its holiday decorations, which have become more elaborate over the years, thanks largely to house decorator Mary Supino.

"Travelers is very well-known as a special occasion restaurant, fine dining," Tina Langner told Daily Voice. "We've been around for so long that people know we're here, and they keep coming back."

What keeps people coming back?

"I think people like the decorations, and the German food that we specialize in," Langner said. "We have the gingerbread house, and the Christmas decorations year after year. ... Mary Supino is an incredible decorator for us, decorating each room.

"New Year's Eve is big for us, and we're one of the few restaurants that is open during the holidays," Langner added. "Christmas Eve is the only day we're closed. We do a lot of parties in winter, and weddings in the spring. Our landscaping is very well known in Westchester."

Langner then put her finger on another reason people keep returning to Travelers Rest.

"Everything's about family here," she said. "We're all family here, and people do notice, and appreciate, that."

Travelers Rest is located at 25 Saw Mill River Rd. in Ossining, and Christmas decorations will be up until January 11. Check their web site at: www.thetravelersrest.com
