Known for their bright fireball meteors, the Quadrantids, which appear during early January each year, peak for only a few hours compared to longer peaks for other meteor showers, according to NASA.
There is some uncertainty as to the exact hours when stargazers should expect the Quadrantid meteor shower to peak.
Most astronomers are predicting the pre-dawn hours of both Tuesday and Wednesday will be the best times for viewing. Others say late Tuesday night into early Wednesday. The most likely time frame appears to be between midnight and dawn both Tuesday and Wednesday.
The radiant point of the Quadrantid meteor shower is an area inside the constellation Boötes, near the Big Dipper. The name comes from Quadrans Muralis, a former constellation created by French astronomer Jérôme Lalande in 1795 that is now part of Boötes.
