Port Chester resident Missy Rosario appeared on the popular game show on March 14. Last week, Yorktown resident Robert Santoli made headlines when he won $76,076 on the show

A Port Chester police officer and lifelong resident of the village, Rosario won almost $12,000. A member of the Wheel Watchers club, she got on the show by submitting a video and was invited to audition in Manhattan, where she made the cut.

"I received a letter in the mail saying I was going to appear and went out to Los Angeles in October," Rosario said. "It was so exciting."

A lifelong "Wheel of Fortune" fan, Rosario said she remembers watching the show while she was still in diapers. Her father was a game show fanatic who passed away when Rosario was in high school.

"I knew this would make him proud," Rosario said. "It took me a long time, but I did it."

Rosario enjoyed her interactions with host Pat Sajak and hostess Vanna White.

"Vanna was very personable," Rosario said. "She came into our contestant waiting area and gave us a peptalk. She has a bright smile, she's just like us. Pat wished us good luck."

During the show, Rosario missed an early toss-up and spent the rest of her appearance playing catch-up. And while she wasn't the winner, she achieved her goal of obtaining as much money as she could- $11,700, finishing $1400 behind the winner.

One of the tips Rosario has for any potential Wheel player is to buy vowels.

"They help open the puzzle," Rosario said. "But don't waste any money if you have a feeling what the puzzle is."

Rosario said she's not sure what she plans to do with the money she won, but is hoping to put it toward buying a home with her husband and two children. She also wants to drive her mom out west so she can visit a dude ranch.
