As part of Northern Westchester Hospital's '100 Years of Care' celebration, hospital staff and the New Castle Historical Society will welcome adults and children ages 8 and up to 'Saws, Scalpels and Stitches: How the Civil War Helped Advance Modern Medicine', an educational look into a pivotal era in medical history.
Cassie Ward, Director of the New Castle Historical Society and Dr. James Dwyer, Chief of Emergency Medicine at NWH will introduce families to the basics of Civil War Era medicine and disease, as well as its lasting legacy on modern medicine. Using medical histories of local Westchester civil war soldiers, participants will review symptoms and guess what treatments were used. Register today and explore the ways in which medical practices from years ago facilitated the establishment of modern hospitals such as Northern Westchester Hospital.
The talk will be held on Sunday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the NWH Conference Center. Registration and a fee of $10 is required. To RSVP, click here.
