Hudson Valley Celebrates Halloween With Killer Costumes

It was quite the spooky day in the Hudson Valley Monday as Halloween saw the streets filled with ghosts, vampires, monsters and demons.

Helping to keep the peace in Elmsford was Batman, who showed up at the school's Halloween Parade looking suspiciously like Superintendent Joseph Ricca.

The superintendent promised students from Alice E. Grady Elementary School and the Carl L. Dixson Primary School that he would march in costume if they managed to collect 200 cans of food for the local pantry, part of the district’s “Scare Away Hunger” campaign.

The idea for the initiative came from parent Jessi Lanza.

Students and their families did even better than that. They collected a total of 600 cans, all of which were donated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel pantry in Elmsford.

The classes that collected the most cans will earn a pizza party on Nov. 4.

“It was a super fun day for an amazing cause,” said Ricca. “I was happy to fulfill my end of the bargain, and we look forward to continuing the “Scare Away Hunger” campaign in the Elmsford Union Free School District next year.”

Tarrytown held its annual Halloween Parade, which featured Chick Galella, a World War II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor as the Grand Marshal.

Galella was dressed as Uncle Sam and rode in a car dressed up with Halloween mannequins.
