State Senator Asks For Economic Study On New York Casinos

State Sen. Joe Griffo wants an economic study to be done on the pending casinos in New York amidst pressure from the Oneida Indian Nation to prevent Finger Lakes competitor Lago Resort and Casino from getting licensed, according to Time Warner Cable News.

Griffo, a Republican, who represents the Mohawk Valley where Turning Stone, owned and operated by the Oneida Indians is located, asked for the study in a letter submitted to the Department of Labor, the New York Gaming Commission and the Empire State Development Corp., says Time Warner Cable News..

Griffo's letter reportedly asks for information about gaming industry jobs in New York currently and through 2017, as well as figures for employment at places that have gambling services, according to the report.

The Oneida Indian Nation reportedly in the past weeks has objected to construction of the Lago Resort, Time Warner Cable News says.
