Super Saturday, or as some call it, Panic Saturday, marks the final Saturday before Christmas, featuring wild sales for shoppers as they make their last minute purchases for friends and loved ones before the holiday.
At The Westchester in White Plains, Christmas shoppers flooded the myriad of stores, which featured significantly discounted items and extended store hours for those that left their shopping to the last few days.
“I don’t even know if they need the sales as much as the longer hours for those of us that put our shopping on the back burner,” Jesse Cahill said while waiting on a lengthy line with an armful of presents at Urban Outfitters. “I’m trying to get it all done in one day this year.”
The surge of shoppers put a strain on security teams, which were forced to direct traffic in the parking garage and ensure the safety of thousands of shoppers circulating the mall’s three levels of stores.
“It’s been a busy one, that’s for sure,” Manny Pascal, who was brought in as a temporary security for the holiday season, said. “It’s been a steady flow of customers for the last few days, but definitely more today.”
Whether shopping for the newest tech at the Apple Store, jewelry at Pandora or clothes at Gucci, shoppers were unanimously united in their approval of the Super Saturday sales.
“It’s Christmas shopping on the cheap. It makes sense for shoppers and store owners alike, so why not,” Amy Palmer said while browsing at Pottery Barn. “I’ve got most of my shopping done, but it’s a good chance to come out and pick up a few things I may have forgotten along the way.”
