Hackensack's Newest Brewery Will Preserve Essence Of City During Redevelopment An endeavor that began in a Hackensack residential kitchen more than a decade ago is moving into a new home next month. Hackensack Brewing Co. began unofficially in 2006 by Mike Jones, who -- after work at Hackensack University Medical Center -- would come home and brew in his high-rise apartment. He and his longtime friends Irfan Qureshi, Alexander Ferenczi and Herbert Lamont Barr III on Feb. 2 are celebrating the opening of the Hackensack Brewing Co.'s taproom on Johnson Avenue.
