'Staggering': More Than 5,000 Guns Seized At Airports Nationwide So Far This Year, TSA Reports
A Connecticut man was seized at LaGuardia Airport on Tuesday after TSA screening revealed a loaded .380-caliber handgun in his carry-on bag. Port Authority police confiscated the gun and arrested the Newton, CT man on a weapons charge after the Transportation Security Administration X-ray machine alerted a screener, the TSA's Lisa Farbstein said on Oct. 3. “The number of individuals who are stopped with guns at checkpoints across the country is staggering," said Robert Duffy, the TSA’s federal security director for the airport. "Responsible gun owners know where their firearm is at all times." Officers immediately alerted Port Authority police, w…

A TSA officer staffing a checkpoint X-ray monitor alerted Port Authority police, who seized the six shooter and the woman, Farbstein said. It was the 11th gun picked off at a Newark TSA checkpoint so far this year, she said. “This is a fine example of how we use the technology available to us to…

Even If You've Been Good All Year The TSA Can Still Take Away Your Presents
It's that time of year when the world -- travels home without gifts? Well those are not the lyrics but they could be if you are not careful with the gifts you thoughtfully picked. It is possible that those presents could be damaged, unwrapped or confiscated by the Travel Security Administration, all of which is often avoidable. The TSA recommends packing gifts in gift bags or gift boxes instead of wrapping them, because presents frequently need to be unwrapped. That is because some popular gift items can trigger alarms, which means TSA agents will unwrap the item simply to loo…

You Better Not Pout If TSA Stops You From Bringing These Foods On The Plane
Your family may want you to bring them some figgy pudding, as the song goes, but first you should check the Transportation Security Administration guidelines. Some surprising holiday treats can be carried through security checkpoints, some need to be checked and others will need to be left behind according to a release by the TSA. Advice the TSA provides to determine if your items need to be checked is if you can "spill it, spread it, spray it, pump it or pour it, and it’s larger than 3.4 ounces, then it should go in a checked bag." Food items frequently require additional security screeni…
