BMW, Tractor-Trailer Crash Shuts Rt. 22 East In Hillside, One Dead

Traffic was being detoured away from Rt. 22 eastbound in Hillside Monday morning after a BMW sedan crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer, ABC7 reports.

The area between Bloy and North Broad streets was shut down for the crash investigation, which has been underway since early this morning. The crash was reported around 3:30 a.m.

The driver of the BMW was killed in the crash, News 12 reported.

The truck began backing up, the driver apparently not realizing the sedan was wedged underneath it, ABC7 says.

The detour was causing "major" delays, DOT also said.
