Student Arrested After Bringing Gun To Union Catholic HS: Police
A student at Union Catholic High School was arrested after they brought a handgun to school on Monday, Jan. 22, authorities said.
At 10:45 a.m., Scotch Plains police was alerted by the high school about a firearm being recovered, Jeffrey Briel, the chief of police, said. The school was immediately placed on lockdown as police recovered the weapon, Briel said.
There was no threat or harm to the school, students or personnel, Briel said. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood school district as well as schools nearby were also placed in a temporary lockdown out of an abundance of caution, Briel said.…

A store manager at Macy's was slashed in the groin after trying to prevent a shoplifter from leaving in Jersey City on Wednesday, Nov. 1, authorities said.
At 12:20 p.m., the manager observed Alejandro Rodriguez, 26, attempting to flee, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. Rodriguez was apprehended by loss prevention and the manager, Wallace-Scalfione said.

A 55-year-old East Orange man was convicted of impersonating a police officer and unlawful possession of a weapon, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II announced on Friday, June 9.
Last July, Todd Thompson, who was appointed a constable in the City of East Orange, performed an illegal traffic stop near Newark Penn Station, using police lights he installed in his personal vehicle, Stephens said.
During the stop, Thompson falsely identified himself as a police officer and brandished a handgun while demanding documents from the victim, Stephens said.

Police recovered 19 illegal firearms, loaded magazines, heroin and more from more than a dozen individuals in Newark in the last week, they said.
