It happened at the intersection of McCarter Highway and South Street, closing the roadway between Pennington and Mulberry Streets as of 4:40 p.m. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Tom Fennelley said his office is investigating.

Police say the driver picked up a male passenger at 31 South St. shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20. The man, pictured above, punched the driver and stole her cell phone before running west on South Street, authorities said. The victim was treated for injuries at St. Michael’s Hospital and released, police say.
