Violinist ID'd As Victim Of Garwood House Fire Police have identified the victim killed in a Garwood house fire last week as a 71-year-old man. Charles Riordon died in the Friday, Nov. 3 blaze, which broke out on the 100 block of North Avenue around 4:50 p.m., Garwood police said. Those who knew Riordon remembered him as a violinist. Man Dies In Garwood Fire A man was killed in a Union County fire Friday, Nov. 3. Flames broke out at a home on the 100 block of North Avenue in Garwood around 4:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, local police said. Multiple 911 callers said the first floor of the structure was fully engulfed.  Garwood firefighters and others from surrounding jurisdictions responded, and neighbors said a victim may be inside, Garwood police said. Firefighters found a male victim on the first floor apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The incident remains under investigation.

Police: Woman Lying Face Down In Road Was Struck, Killed By SUV In Union County An 81-year-old woman was struck and killed by an SUV in Union County, authorities said. Catherine Flint was crossing southbound on Walnut Street when she was struck by a 61-year-old Fold Explorer driver from Westfield around 6:15 p.m., Dec. 2, Garwood police said. First responders found Flint lying face down in the street near the intersection of Second Avenue, authorities said. Garwood First Aid and a paramedic unit arrived, and Flint was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The driver of the SUV that struck Flint was in the process of dialing 911 when police arrived.
