Elizabeth Man Arrested In Deadly New Year's Eve Stabbing
An Elizabeth man has been charged in a deadly New Year's Eve stabbing, authorities announced. Edwin Rivera, 48, stabbed Jose Burgos, 56, on the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue around 9 p.m. Dec. 31, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said. A witness drove Burgos to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Ruppert, who is prosecuting the case. A 30-year-old man died and another victim was injured in an overnight shooting in Elizabeth. Police responding to the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue found Eliezer Martinez, Jr. and another man with gunshot wounds around 1:30 a.m., Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca and Police Director Earl Graves said. Police are seeking a 20-year-old Union Township man charged with shooting his girlfriend dead at his house over the weekend, authorities said. Jamar I. Webber is facing charges of first-degree murder and two related weapons offenses in connection with the death of 19-year-old Malikah Taylor of Newark, Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. A 43-year-old Newark man has been charged with causing a deadly crash earlier this week on the Garden State Parkway then trying to cover up his role in it, authorities said.
