Elizabeth Police And Fire Pitching In To Save St. Mary School Alumni of St. Mary of the Assumption School in Elizabeth have planned a fundraiser Saturday to raise the approximately $2 million officials say are needed to keep the school open. Citing ongoing financial difficulties, the Archdiocese of Newark announced last month that the 90-year-old school would be shut down for good.  The school, located at 237 S. The turf on both is being redone, closing the facilities. "We usually get a few thousand people sitting on the fields," Police Chief Jaqueline Luthcke said. Wawa Is Opening In Roselle Thursday -- And First Responders Are Pumped Wawa, the popular convenience store chain, will add another location Thursday, when a ribbon-cutting will be held at 1206 Rivington St. in Roselle.  To celebrate, the Roselle police and fire departments will compete in a hoagie-building contest (in honor of the chain's popular sandwiches) dubbed "Hoagies for Heroes," a " battle of will, bravery, and skill of sandwich building," the agencies said in a tongue-in-cheek statement this week.  The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 9 a.m. followed by Hoagies for Heroes at 9:30 a.m.
