Multiple motor vehicle crashes early Monday, Nov. 11, created traffic delays for drivers along Route 17 in Bergen County. According to incident reporter Boyd A. Loving, a series of crashes on both the northbound and southbound lanes led to backups and lane closures, as emergency crews worked to clear the roadway. 'Extremely Difficult' Extrication Ends With Firefighters Freeing Trapped Driver Off Route 17
HEROES: Waldwick firefighters completed what authorities called an "extremely difficult operation" by freeing a driver whose sedan had crashed in a wooded area off rain-slicked Route 17. The BMW crashed partially down an embankment at the particularly troublesome Sheridan Avenue ramp off the southbound highway around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3. Pickup Crashes Through Route 17 Guardrail, Down Embankment
A driver and passenger escaped serious injury when their pickup truck crashed through a Route 17 guardrail and landed on its side down an embankment, responders said. It was just past the bus stop at the Sheridan Avenue exit on the southbound highway in Waldwick just past 2 a.m. Wednesday when the Chevy Silverado barreled through the rail and landed on its driver's side. Smoke rolled out the front door as Saddle River Police Sgt. Diana Golonek and Officer Grant Novak arrived at a house fire just before midnight Thursday. The living-room blaze was beginning to cook, leaving the pair little time. Golonek emptied two fire extinguishers on the flames while Novak opened a garden hose he'd pulled through an open French door of the 5,000-square-foot house on tiny dead-ended Dogwood Drive late on June 28. Firefighters made quick work of a late-night blaze at a Wyckoff shopping center pizzeria. A fire alarm brought responders to Pizzeria Mandara in the Boulder Run shopping center off Franklin and Godwin avenues as snow continued to fall shortly before midnight Monday, Feb. 27. Jeep Topples Traffic Light In Waldwick
A 17-year-old driver escaped injury when her Jeep knocked down a traffic light and damaged a junction box in Waldwick, authorities said. The borough driver's vehicle came to rest in a wooded area off the corner of Sheridan Avenue and East Prospect Street at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, March 6, Police Chief Mark F. Messner said. Fire Ravages Wyckoff Garage
Fire ravaged a detached garage at a Wyckoff home. An occupant of the home got out OK and no injuries were reported in the two-alarm blaze, which broke out around 2 p.m. Tuesday on Sherwood Lane off Crescent and Franklin avenues and was quickly knocked down. Car Slams Into Front Of Waldwick Dry Cleaners
No injuries were reported after a compact car slammed into the front of a Waldwick dry cleaners early Monday afternoon. It was unclear why the female driver's Ford Focus lurched forward, smashing a window at the Dry Clean Spa on Franklin Turnpike. Waldwick police and firefighters responded, along with a borough building inspector who found minimal damage, allowing other businesses in the strip mall off Wyckoff Avenue to continue operating. Two special young boys will be treated to a parade of first responders this Sunday in Waldwick, thanks to Pink Heals of Bergen County. Both Cole McKeon of Waldwick and Austin “AJ” Katchen of Cliffside Park were diagnosed months apart last year with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that attacks certain types of nerve tissue. Before his first birthday, AJ had successful tumor resection surgery, the first of several operations. He’s also undergone chemotherapy that kept him hospitalized several months.
