Tense Standoff Ends Safely After Military Vet Pulls Knife On Police At North Jersey Resort
A potential tragedy was avoided when Vernon Township police safely disarmed a troubled military veteran from New York who pulled a knife on them at the Crystal Springs Resort. Police were called after witnesses said the man had been sharpening the knife and "acting erratically" at the pool bar in the Minerals Hotel shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9. He'd also apparently told an employee that he has PTSD. The first officer there cleared the area after finding him, township police said. An off-duty officer and backups from surrounding towns quickly joined him, they said. The man refu…

'All I Saw Was An AR-15:' Dad Details NJ Motel Robbery That Cost Him Right Leg
Friday the 13th of last month started as a night Selwyn Torres had been looking forward to for months. The 36-year-old Roxbury dad went to his first-ever concert: Eladio Carrión at Madison Square Garden. Having been suffering from PTSD and depression since he lost his job during the pandemic, Torres finally had something to be excited about. And it was a great night, Torres said. His only regret was becoming friendly after the show with the people who he said ended up costing him his right leg in a struggle for a high-powered assault rifle they used to rob him at the Roxb…

'Too Late,' Judge Tells Paramus Teacher, Bus Crash Survivor Who Tried To File Suit
A Paramus teacher who survived the Morris County school bus crash on Route 80 might have been able to file a lawsuit -- if only she had tried sooner, according to a Superior Court judge. East Brook Middle School teacher Jessica Madonna was diagnosed with PTSD in January, eight months after the Mount Olive crash that killed her colleague, a fifth grade student and left nearly 40 others injured, NJ.com reports. The 28-year-old was released from the hospital the day of the crash without symptoms, and returned to teaching the following September, the article says citing Morris County court docu…
