Firefighters Extricate Dump Truck Driver After Multi-Vehicle Rollover Closes Route 287
As he recuperated in a hospital bed, a dump truck driver from Bergen County who miraculously survived a horrific crash on Route 287 worried about the fate of his dog. The pooch bolted as rescuers arrived at the scene of the noontime rollover on the northbound highway in Mahwah on Monday. No one knew where he'd gone. Driver Killed In Fiery Route 287 Crash
State Police were investigating a report of vehicles possibly racing before one crashed through a guard rail and burst into flames, killing its driver, near the Wanaque-Oakland border on Route 287 Tuesday night, responders said. Syed Hassan, 34, of Bethlehem, PA was pronounced dead at the scene at milepost 55.9 on the northbound highway in Wanaque following the 10:15 p.m. crash, they said. Wanaque firefighters doused the blaze. Oakland and Wanaque police also responded, along with NJSP’s Fatal Accident Investigation and Crime Scene Unit and the state Department of Transportation.

Bogota Bicyclist, 58, Killed In Route 3 Crash
A bicyclist was struck and killed in the middle lane of eastbound Route 3 in East Rutherford late Saturday, responders said. Tony Perez, 58, of Bogota was pronounced dead after he was struck by a vehicle shortly after 11:30 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Phillip Taormina said. "In an attempt to avoid striking Mr. Perez, the operator of the vehicle applied the brakes, swerved and was struck from behind by a second passing vehicle," Taormina said. $2.2M Grant Will Fix 'Seven Pipes' Bridge In Oradell Reservoir
A $2.2 million contract has been awarded to repair the Seven Pipes Bridge in the Oradell Reservoir. Bergen County officials on Thursday awarded a contract to replace the Closter-Harrington Park bridge over the northeastern part of the reservoir.
