Child, 5, Dead After Being Found In Newark Bathtub: Prosecutors
A five-year-old died after being found unresponsive in a bathtub in Newark on Monday, Aug. 28, authorities said. At 7:26 p.m., police responded to the 400 block of Washington Street, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The child was transported to University Hospital where it was soon pronounced dead, Stephens and Fragé said. A 69-year-old Whippany resident was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a minor in a parking lot, authorities said. Livingston officers responding to reports of suspicious activity in a car found Alan Kelsey, on Wednesday, Aug. 2, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said. Kelsey was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Stephens said. It was not immediately clear where the child was.

A law enforcement officer fired a shot and an NJ TRANSIT bus was involved in a crash during a pursuit in East Orange on Sunday, responders said. Twin brothers from Newark have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Jersey City man, authorities said.
