First responders can sometimes have thankless jobs -- but not in Lyndhurst, where they were applauded by a schoolful of grateful youngsters. The K-through-2nd graders from Washington School thanked Lyndhurst's local heroes for saving their school after a blaze broke out in the basement last month. Driver Hospitalized After Sedan Slams Into Pole In Glen Rock
A senior driver suffered a severe leg injury when her sedan slammed into a utility pole Tuesday afternoon in Glen Rock. Borough police and EMS workers tended to the victim after her Toyota Corolla rammed the pole on Prospect Street near Saddle River Park. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by members of the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the village's Fire Rescue team. Gas Leak Temporarily Clears Neighboring Saddle Brook Homes
A gas leak in a vacant house forced the evacuation Thursday night of some neighboring homes in a Saddle Brook neighborhood. Residents were "advised it was safe to return to their homes" a short time after the leak was reported in the Colonial Avenue home near the Helen Smith school, Police Chief Robert Kugler said. Police secured the scene and were joined by firefighters and EMS workers, the chief said. A PSE&G crew tended to the leak once firefighters gained entry, he said.
