A smoky house fire in Passaic went to four alarms the day after Christmas. No injuries were immediately reported in the blaze, which ignited in a Van Buren Street home near Central Avenue around 11 a.m., Passaic Mayor Hector Carlos Lora said. A loose snake gave building officials a scare in a Jersey City high-rise, officials said. The building manager at 20 River Ct. contacted police on March 4 on reports of a snake entering a unit, according to Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione. Police found the 3-foot albino corn snake behind the fridge on Monday, March 6, she said. The snake was extracted by animal control from the Liberty Humane Society, and confirmed a domestic pet. Police Forced To Put Deer Down After Crash In Glen Rock, It's Season For Drivers To Beware
The risk posed by deer in densely populated areas this particular time of year was tragically illustrated when one had to be put down in Glen Rock after being struck by a car. The driver was treated by an EMT from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a minor hand injury after the deer smashed the windshield of a Hyundai Elantra on Maple Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 30. A bear sighting was reported in a Morris County backyard, authorities said. The bear was seen in a yard on Lorraine Road near Greenwood Avenue in Madison on Monday, August 1, according to a post from the borough’s Facebook page. A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Hunterdon County, health officials said. The animal was found near Farmhouse Road in Alexandria Township and tested positive for rabies on Thursday, July 21, according to the Hunterdon County Dept. of Health. It was a team effort as responders rescued a deer from a storm drain in Demarest. Police who responded to several calls summoned borough DPW workers and both Demarest and Haworth firefighters to County Road and Eastview Terrace shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4. A young child and an adult were hospitalized after being bitten by a dog Thursday in Clifton, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred at a private home on Knapp Avenue, just off Randolph Avenue, around 1 p.m., Police Lt. Robert Bracken said. The Shepherd mix bit the girl on the cheek and an adult on the arm, Bracken said. Both were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, he said. Deer Chased By Dog Dies After Crashing Through Window Of River Vale Home
It came in as a possible burglary in progress but turned out to be a horrific accident. Sometime before dawn Wednesday, a deer being chased by a dog crashed through the window of a River Vale home, police said. The gravely wounded deer eventually died, Capt. Chris Bulger said. Animal control removed the carcass from the Coopers Lane home, he said. “The dog appeared to be fine and the deer showed no signs of injury from the dog,” the captain said. The dog’s owner and the homeowner “have been in contact and will handle the matter between them for the damage,” he said.

Dog Attack Sends 2 To Hospital In South Brunswick
Two people were hospitalized after being attacked by a family dog in South Brunswick on Tuesday, police said. A man in his 50s and woman in her 60s were bitten by the family dog, a pitbull, at a house on the 100 block of New Road, local police said. The victims were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said. Their conditions were not known as of Wednesday morning.
