TEANECK, N.J. — Convincing a room full of police officers to come to a Disney character meet-and-greet to benefit the Teaneck PBA was the hard part for Detective Ed Kazmierczak.
Helping a 4-year-old River Edge boy battling neuroblastoma got everyone in blue on board.
Sunday’s Teaneck PBA fundraiser at the Glenpointe Marriot raised more than $2,500 for “Baby Luke,” the son of Kazmierczak’s fellow Ridgefield Park High School graduate, Vanessa Forte Abbadessa.
As of Monday evening, Kazmierczak had yet to count the funds that will go toward the Teaneck PBA.
Whatever that final tally is, however, pales in comparison to helping a child with brain cancer.
“You can’t even put a price on [it],” said Kazmierczak, who received upwards of $1,000-worth of donations from businesses and donors. “Little boys and little girls came and interacted with police and their favorite characters.
“The smiles in this place were just,” the detective trailed off. “If I could do it all again tomorrow, I would.”
