Mother Delivers Baby In Holy Name Medical Center Lobby

TEANECK, N.J. — The second "code pink" of the year was called at Holy Name Medical Center earlier this week when a woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the hospital lobby.

Doctors and nurses rushed down around 7 a.m. Wednesday, as Lidia Chonay of Fairview delivered Benjamin Camey Chonay, with father Josha Camey.

"She delivered in the car and our on-call physician responded, and finished with the delivery of the placenta," Holy Name's director of OBGYN Christopher Englert told Daily Voice.

"We were able to then get her upstairs and stabilize her."

It's not all that uncommon for mothers to deliver babies in the lobby, he said.

It's more common for women who have had children before, Englert said.

"Labor is very unpredictable," the doctor said. "Sometimes it just kicks into high gear."
