Responders rescued a jumper who was hanging off the side of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The report of a jumper snagged near the northbound Tarrytown end of the bridge came in shortly before 10 a.m., Friday, May 27, bringing a huge contingent of emergency personnel, including the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team. Four Workers Rescued At New Tappan Zee Bridge
Four construction workers stuck beneath the underside of the new Tappan Zee Bridge were rescued by fellow employees. According to the Thruway Authority, the workers, who were in a bucket-type articulating truck working under the bridge, became stuck around 2:19 p.m. Wednesday when the equipment failed. Although local fire departments were called, employees with Tappan Zee Constructors had another vehicle on standby that was used to rescue the stuck workers, the authority said. No one was injured.

Update: New Tappan Zee Bridge Reopens After Crash Causes Hours-Long Closure
This story has been updated. The southbound lanes of the new Tappan Zee Bridge have reopened after a pre-dawn crash involving an overturned flatbed truck causes its closure for nearly four hours. The pre-dawn crash occurred near Exit 11 near the span to the Westchester-bound bridge span. Traffic was at a standstill stretching back to Exit 14 (Spring Valley). Motorists were advised to take the Bear Mountain Bridge or the George Washington Bridge until the crash scene was cleared just before 9 a.m.

Lane, Ramp Closures Near New Tappan Zee Bridge Announced
A new round of overnight lane and ramp closures near the new Tappan Zee Bridge have been announced as crews continue working on the Westchester landing. Beginning on Friday, Tappan Zee Constructors will continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the Westchester landing, which will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the New York State Thruway, according to officials. Cost Of New Tappan Zee Bridge May Be $1 Billion Over Budget, Report Says
The new Tappan Zee Bridge may come in at a final cost of more than $4 billion dollars, nearly $1 billion above the base contract, according to a recently released Politico report. Contractors may be seeking upwards of $900 million in claims against the Thruway Authority, according to the report, on top of the $3.142 billion base contract, which exceeds the $548 million that had originally been budgeted for contingencies, though that number is reportedly expected to shrink.
