Teaneck police responding to a call of a vehicle stuck in the mud behind the Teaneck Garden Club near Overpeck Park found Lea Asala, 89, outside their SUV and her husband, Anthony Asala, 91, inside around 9 a.m. Saturday. Thief Diverts Attention Of Clifton Homeowner, 87, While Accomplice Steals Cash, Jewelry A thief posing as a utility worker kept an 87-year-old Clifton woman occupied while an accomplice stole jewelry and several thousand dollars in cash from her bedroom, authorities said. The thief knocked on the woman’s door around 4 p.m. Saturday, identified himself as a PSE&G employee and displayed a medal badge and a photo identification card, the victim told police. Home Invader Held Elderly Couple, Others At Knifepoint CLIFTON, N.J. -- Detectives believe they may be closer to finding a man who forced his way into an elderly Clifton couple's home at knifepoint. The man in the sketch knocked on the door around 4 a.m. last Oct. 14, then grabbed the 72-year-old resident who answered and forced her inside, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.
