The fifth-annual challenge gives educators a chance to show their innovative and modern teaching techniques. Voters and judges then choose the best video.
A top-10 finish earns a school $8,000, Clifton School No. 11 Principal Theresa Evans said.
Clifton submitted a video about technology bringing learning to life.
"We're proud of our video this year," Evans told Daily Voice. "We hope it's at least enough to get us in the semifinals."
The video starts with an old-time feel and switches to color as it shows students using Google Chromebooks and the various ways they help them learn.
"It was sort of pieced together," Evans said of the video. "I can't really say a thought appeared in my head at first. It was collective. We thought it would set us apart to have this 'Wizard of Oz' -esque beginning.
"Technology really does color our world so it would be a good segue to illustrate that."
It took several months to complete the video so they did not interrupt classes, the principal said.
Clifton's video had more than 2,300 votes and 700 views as of Thursday evening. Its vote total ranked fifth in the contest.
School No. 11 placed in the top 10 of the Follett challenge two years ago, winning $5,000 at the time. Any prize money now would be used for technology in the media center and additional books, Evans said.
"All of the teachers should be congratulated, just as every student should be," she said. "It's really a community effort for sure."
