Mahwah police, joined by their colleagues from Wyckoff, arrested 25-year-old Joshua Bushman at his home last night after his uncle, a Ramsey resident, came to Mahwah headquarters and reported the incident, which began earlier in the day at a property that Bushman is renovating in North Haledon, authorities said.
Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said police were trying to determine the cause of a “verbal and violent confrontation” that he said “escalated very quickly,” leaving the uncle with minor injuries.
The uncle went to his brother’s house in Mahwah, and was followed soon after by Bushman, who arrived in his pickup truck and resumed the argument, the chief said.
He then “threatened to shoot him and his entire family,” Batelli said.
Bushman told Mahwah Lt. Philip Tangel, Sgt. Michael Blondin and Officer Travis Canning when they went to his Wyckoff home to arrest him that his uncle hit him first, the chief said. He said Bushman then admitted to having weapons in his home.
Mahwah police seized the .40-caliber Glock, Batelli said.
Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said his officers also seized a shotgun and rifle, as well as a small amount of pot and drug paraphernalia.
Bushman was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with making terroristic threats and two counts of illegal weapons possession. Wyckoff police issued him summonses in connection with the pot and paraphernalia, Fox said.
