The pedestrian, also from Fair Lawn, was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson with critical head and leg injuries after she was struck in a crosswalk on Fair Lawn Avenue near Abbott Road around 9 a.m. Police said summonses were pending against the 80-year-old driver of the four-door Mercury Grand Marquis.

Emergency responders conducted CPR on his wife, who was pronounced dead at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood later this morning, a family source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“This is so horrible,” the family source said. “Everyone is heartbroken.”

It was the second time in a little over 12 hours that an adult female pedestrian was struck on Fair Lawn Avenue.

Fair Lawn police, paramedics from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Fuchs Medical Services workers responded.

Fair Lawn Avenue was closed in both directions between Plaza Road and Abbott Road for about an hour.
