Officers Adrian Sulejmani and Eugene Foster were responding to the call when they spotted Julio Batista, 18, of Paterson, who'd just run up to a Kime Avenue house, grabbed a package from the front door and took off, Capt. Lawrence Martin said Monday.

The stolen item was returned to its owner and both Batista and an underage girl he was with were released, Martin said.

Batista was charged with theft, the captain said.

No complaints were brought against the girl, he said.
