Officers Elliot Lyons and Skylar Cauceglia were on patrol when they discovered that mall security guards were searching for a trio that had just shoplifted merchandise from the True Religion store on Monday, Capt. Laurence W. Martin said Friday.

Moments later, the officers spotted Damon Gould, 22, of Linden with a $459 jacket later reported stolen from the store, he said.

Security guards, meanwhile, had grabbed the two girls, who Martin said were carrying $60 worth of stolen merchandise.

Gould -- listed on New Jersey State Police's Megan’s Law offender watch list as a Tier Two convicted offender from an incident in New York State -- "had arranged to meet the juvenile females using the Internet," Martin said.

The girls were released to family members, he said.

Gould was released on summons pending a court hearing. Wayne police also notified the agency handling his Megan's Law registration, Martin said.
