The gunmen sped off in a white Toyota van, according to a police radio broadcast this morning.

The bulletin said said the unidentified officer was clipped after two robbers opened fire at an Exxon station on Route 23 near Packanack Lake Road. He was taken to an area hospital, where his condition couldn’t be determined. His injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening, however.

This comes as 30-year veteran John Reardon takes over as acting chief of the 116-member department. The acting chief could not immediately be reached for comment, nor could detectives.
