Stanley Rollins, 53, was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where he was pronounced dead just after 4:30 p.m.

Driver William Handlin of Kearny was backing the Gaeta Recycling Co. truck out of Paterson on Black Hawk Lane when it drove over Rollins’s legs, Police Lt. John Bakelaar told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Handlin immediately called 911, he said.

Handlin received a summons for careless driving.

Two non-related summonses also were issued to the company — for failing to maintain headlights and leaking oil, the lieutenant said.

To complete their investigation, police were seeking witnesses or surveillance video from area residences.

“The other crew members didn’t see it,” Bakelaar said. “We’re hoping that someone saw something and will give us a call at (201) 891-3131.”
