The 56-year-old victim from Paterson told PAPD Officer Steve Pisciotta and Sgt Brian Boel that his Samsung Galaxy 4 cell phone was swiped moments earlier.

He “described the suspect and pointed him out inside the courtroom,” the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

As one officer stood near 27-year-old Pedro Figueroa, the other dialed the stolen phone’s number.

Figureoa “took the ringing cell from his pocket and looked at it as it vibrated,” Pentangelo said.

After activating the home screen to determine ownership, the officers gave the victim back his phone — and took Figueroa into custody on charges of receiving stolen property.
