Meanwhile, New Jersey State Police confirmed this afternoon that detectives have found a tractor-trailer that ran over the 28-year-old victim around 10:45 last night.

Investigators were still working the case, Sgt. Brian Polite said late this afternoon. Any questions about details of the incident, other than that the rig has been found, must wait for now, he said.

A law enforcement-related witness who came upon the scene originally told CLIFFVIEW PILOT last night that the victim was in very bad shape and that a vehicle was being sought.

“It was a really bad scene, like a horror movie,” the witness said. “People were running up and down the shoulder.”

This morning, New Jersey State Police confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was hit after putting on the hazard lights of his car and getting out, they said.
