State trooper, suspect hospitalized after drug-deal shooting in Paterson

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A New Jersey State Police detective hit by a car was fine and a suspect was being treated for a gunshot wound in the shoulder, both at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, after an undercover drug deal in Paterson went bad Thursday night, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The detective was involved in an undercover drug deal at the corner of Chamberlain and West Broadway when he was nearly run down by a suspect, a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The detective — who was struck by the blue Lexus —  fired off at least one round, hitting a suspect in the shoulder, three separate sources confirmed.

The suspect had lost blood and was unconscious when he was brought in to St. Joe’s but later regained consciousness and was expected to survive, another law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

At least two others with him were taken into custody.
