Severe New Charges For Pompton Plains Man In Fatal Wayne Crash

WAYNE, N.J. -- A Pompton Plains driver who police said was drunk when his car slammed head-on into an SUV on a Wayne street, killing the other driver, now faces aggravated manslaughter and death by auto charges.

Jeffrey A. Afflitto, 31, was fleeing another crash when his 2013 Acura TSX slammed into a 1997 GMC Jimmy driven by 63-year-old Paul J. Amarose of Oak Ridge on Newark Pompton Turnpike on Oct. 22.

Amarose was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.

Afflitto remained held on $300,000 bail.
