The victim told police at the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown Manhattan that he “looked away for a moment,” then looked back to find the bag and his fellow passenger gone around 11 o’clock last night, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

He described the man to the officers, who “canvassed the area and found him and the bag,” Pentangelo said.

A search turned up a hard drive from the camera tucked into the suspect’s waistband, he added. Inside the bag was the camera itself, lenses and a camera harness.

William Yacenko, 44, of Lanza Avenue, was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property after signing a confession admitting to the theft, Pentangelo said.

The 5-foot-9-inch, 140-pound Yacenko, of Lanza Avenue, has been arrested several times in Bergen County the past decade and is under indictment for a trio of armed burglaries out of Garfield, records show.

He also has a string of Bergen and Passaic county burglary, assault and weapons charges and convictions, as well as probation violations, on his record.
