Police: Wayne Bar Patron 'Snaps,' Fights Security, Scares Off Uber Driver

WAYNE, N.J. -- A patron inexplicably went ballistic at Mother's Ale House in Wayne, scaring off an Uber driver and fighting with bouncers, then continued his combative behavior after being taken to the hospital for an evaluation, police said.

Officers found security guards restraining 26-year-old William V. Benenato of Lincoln Park, who was "screaming and yelling obscenities," to keep him from injuring himself just before 11 p.m. last Friday, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Bouncers had removed him from the club, after which Benenato tried taking Uber but "snapped," forcing the driver to leave, Martin said.

They called police after he tried going back in and had to be restrained, the captain said.

Benenato, who already had warrants out of Paterson and Fairfield, was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he "continued to act out," Martin said.

He was later released on a court summons charging him with disorderly conduct.
