Police say lazy slug had himself shot to avoid working

Let‘s play detective: A guy tells police he was robbed and shot twice on his way to work, so patrol officers launch a dragnet while detectives rush to hospital. They find him being treated for minor gunshot wounds — one his arm, the other in his thight — with his fiancée already at his side. Figure it out yet?

Doesn’t take Dick Tracy. Or Monk.

Businesses in the area wisely have video cameras trained on the street, so Clifton detectives retrieved the footage and watched as Yanesis Estrada, 36, of Paterson, dropped off Wilton Estrada at his job, then turned off her headlights and circled the block.

Soon after, they said, a man walked up and got into her car and it drove off — just as Wilton Estrada, 31, of Paterson, was dialing 911 on his cellphone.

Confronted with the evidence, the couple gave up the plan: The idea was to leave Wilton Estrada eligible for disability, workmen’s comp, etc. without ever having to work another day in his life, police said.

To do the deed, police said, the couple hired 29-year-old La Nieta Gang member Jose Rivera of Newark, a friend of Wilon Estrada’s.

Forensic investigators said they found gunshot residue in Yanesis Estrada’s car — and even on her.

She’s behind bars on $15,000 bail pending court action. Triggerman Jose Rivera is being held on $150,000 bail.

It’s unclear what bail was set for Wilton Estrada, who was released from the hospital soon after he arrived. He and his main squeeze are looking at a bunch of fraud and conspiracy charges.
