Officer Leonardo Lago found a heavily damaged 2016 Hyundai and the pickup inside the tunnel's westbound tube at 3 a.m. Oct. 9, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Keith J. Gould, 38, was outside the car, eating a sandwich, he said.

He was arrested after failing a breath test and his car was towed from the scene, Pentangelo said. Police charged him with DWI and reckless driving.

The 37-year-old pickup driver refused medical attention, Pentangelo said, adding that the truck wasn't seriously damaged.
